Lucile Desmoulins

Lucile DesmoulinsWhen the trial against Danton and his friends threatened to fail, the committees needed a pretext to deprive the accused of the right to speak. They found it. It was the wife of Camille Desmoulins who wanted to save her husband's life. From this, a conspiracy of the prisons was constructed – and the frightened deputies of the Convention raised their hands for a new law that made conviction without further defense possible. The rest of the trial proceeded without the accused. Danton and Camille Desmoulins were executed. Lucile Desmoulins faced the guillotine a few days later – to confirm afterwards the alleged conspiracy. Send me to my husband. were her last words. The two-year-old son of Lucile and Camille became an orphan that day.
